Manufacturing Animal Feed Since
1953
There has been a feed mill in operation
at the same location in southeast
Dallas since 1938, when a grinding operation for making hog
and cattle feed was built in the community of Pleasant Mound
near what is now the intersection of Loop 12 and Scyene Road
in Dallas, Texas.
The old grinding operation was purchased
in 1953 by Elmer and Helen Scott, who upgraded the equipment
with a pellet mill and oat huller, enabling the mill to produce
a full line of feed. Following the death of Elmer Scott in
1955, Jack P. Wimberly and his sister, Helen Scott became
partners. Wimberly purchased his sister's interest in the
business. In 1974 Jack's son, Mack, became his business partner
and in 1976 Jack's daughter, Sherry Wimberly Deeds, entered
the business.
Following the death of Mack Wimberly, his
son Jack J. Wimberly, and Sherry Wimberly Deeds took over
the business. Incorporated in 1980, Southwest Feed Mills,
Inc. remains a family business to this day under the direction
of a third generation of Wimberlys.
